Skills already recognized

Under certain conditions, a person applying for a licence, or their guarantor, may be exempt from writing the examination to be guarantor if their skills have already been recognized by the Régie du bâtiment du Québec (RBQ).
Indeed, one may be exempted from the examinations to become a guarantor on a licence if, in the 5 years preceding their application for a new or amended licence, they:
  • served as guarantor for a construction company’s licence in the field covered by the examination
  • had their skills evaluated and recognized by the RBQ in the field and the selected subclass covered by the examination to be exempt from via one of the evaluation methods.

Examples

For instance, to be exempted from the examination in administration, the applicant or their guarantor must, in the 5 years preceding the application for a new or amended licence, have served as administration guarantor or had their skills evaluated and recognized by the RBQ in administration. As for the field carrying out of construction work, the skills must have been recognized in the subclass applied for.

How to be exempted?

To be exempted, the licence applicant or the applicant's guarantor must check the Skills already recognized box in the space provided for this purpose on the licence application form.
