1.3 Contractor – All buildings

This subclass authorizes construction work on all types of buildings including those in subclass 1.2, as well as the construction of inflatable structures governed by paragraph 2 of article 3.4 of the Regulation respecting the application of the Building Act.

It also authorizes construction work on new residential buildings governed by this subclass, but only if said work is subcontracted by the holder of the subclass 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 licence.

In addition, this subclass authorizes construction work covered by licence subclasses 2.6, 3.1, 4.1, 5.1 and 6.1 of Schedule II, when it relates to a building or inflatable structure covered by this subclass.

Finally, it authorizes similar or related construction work.

Additional explanations

This subclass includes construction work in the 1.2 subclass.

This general contractor can bid on, carry out or have carried out all construction work on buildings of any type, i.e., residential, commercial, industrial, or public whose construction standards, with the exception of agricultural buildings and other exclusions, can be found in parts 3 to 6 of the National Building Code as modified by chapter I of the Québec Construction Code.

Part 3 of the 1995 National Building Code of Canada applies to all buildings designed for the following purposes:

  • Group A, assembly establishments
  • Group B, care or detention establishments or Group F, Division F-1 high-risk industrial establishments

with a building area exceeding 600 m² or a height exceeding three storeys, and designed for the following key purposes:

  • Group C, Housing
  • Group D, Business establishments
  • Group E, commercial establishments or
  • Group F, Divisions 2 and 3, average and low-risk industrial establishments.

Inflatable structures subject to paragraph 2 of article 3.4 of the Regulation on the application of the Building Act are those used outdoors:

  • either as housing, care or detention establishments with a floor area of 100m² or more
  • either as assembly or commercial establishments with a floor area exceeding 150 m² or which can accommodate more than 60 occupants.

Note: While articles 3.3 and 3.4 of the Regulation respecting the application of the Building Act were recently removed, their contents were integrated in articles 1.021 (equivalent to former art. 3.3) and 1.022 (equivalent to former art. 3.4) of the Construction Code. Consequently, work covered by this subclass remains unchanged.
