15.4.1 Contractor – Hydronic heating systems for certain work that is not reserved exclusively for master pipe-mechanics

This subclass authorizes maintenance work related to hydronic heating systems, including their propane burners. 

It also authorizes construction work on heating systems referred to in the first paragraph and carried out on the territory of a local municipality whose population does not exceed 5,000, unless it has a public sewer, or on an unorganized territory.

Read carefully the definition of this subclass. In addition to subclass 15.4.1, the contractor might also need other subclasses depending on the work he intends to carry out.

Furthermore, this subclass authorizes construction work on hydronic systems providing heating and air conditioning that is carried out on territories referred to in the second paragraph. However, work relating to units providing heating and air conditioning that are part of such systems cannot be carried out unless the contractor also holds the applicable subclass 15.9 or 15.10 licence. 

Finally, it authorizes related construction work.

This subclass is included, in its entirety, in subclass 15.4.

This subclass authorizes, without exceeding the regulatory framework, construction work relating to the maintenance and demolition of hydronic heating systems.   

Furthermore, when the work is carried out on the aforementioned territories (municipality without a public sewer and whose population does not exceed 5,000, or an unorganized territory), it also authorizes construction work relating to: 

• the installation of the heating unit
• the installation or replacement of burners
• the installation of the hydronic heat distribution network (radiator, convector, pipes, radiant surface, etc.)   
• the installation of gas supply pipes and connection to the meter or tank and connection to the burner 
• the installation of oil supply pipes, the tank and the tank’s connection to the burner  
• the installation of wall vents
• the connection to the chimney
• the installation and connection of the prefabricated chimney to the hydronic heating system 
• the installation of chimney flue liners
• the installation of controls and regulators.

Note that this subclass does not include similar work.

Construction work on a propane burner system (that is not part of the hydronic heating system) requires a subclass 15.6 licence.

The contractor who carries out construction work relating to a unit that provides heat and air conditioning must also hold a subclass refrigeration licence (1.9 or 15.10) relevant to the work.  

Construction work on an electrical installation is the exclusive domain of contractors or owner-builders who hold a subclass 16.0 licence.
