10.0 Contractor – Solid fuel local heating systems

This subclass authorizes construction work that is not the exclusive domain of master pipe mechanics and electrical contractors, and which relates to localized solid fuel heating systems such as stoves and prefabricated fireplaces as well as similar or related construction work.   

Additional explanations

This subclass authorizes, without exceeding the regulatory framework, construction work relating to:

  • prefabricated chimneys for solid fuel heating units  
  • coal, pellet and wood stoves
  • insulation and finishing work on chimney mantles (for prefabricated fireplaces)   

This subclass includes pipes that are part of the unit. However, the installation of a unit that is connected to the building’s heat distribution system, comes under the following subclasses, as the case may be: 15.1, 15.1.1, 15.4, 15.4.1.

NOTE: The construction of masonry fireplaces and chimneys is subject to subclass 4.1.

NOTE: This subclass does not include construction work relating to natural gas, propane or oil-fuelled heating units (supply, installation, venting of combustion gases.

The following subclasses are required for construction work on chimneys connected to:  

  • a propane system: 15.6;
  • an oil system: 15.1 or 15.1.1, 15.3 or 15.3.1, 15.4 or 15.4.1;
  • a natural gas system: 15.1
