1.8 Contractor – Petroleum equipment installations

This subclass authorizes construction work on installations designed for the use, storage or distribution of one or many petroleum products, as well as similar or related construction work.

Additional explanations

A petroleum equipment installation is one designed for the use, storage or distribution of a petroleum product or of many petroleum products. Petroleum products include, among others, gasoline, diesel, aviation fuel and heating fuel oil.

This subclass authorizes, without exceeding the regulatory framework, construction work relating to, among others:

  • motor fuel dispensing outlets (self-serve facility, service station, airport or marina outlet, outlet without trade, etc.)
  • bulk plants
  • pipelines.

Work that does not require a licence

No licence is necessary for the maintenance and repair of equipment, such as the replacement of parts (pumps, probes, valves, etc.).

However, it is possible for construction work related to an installation using, storing, transferring, manipulating or distributing a petroleum product that is not defined as a petroleum product to be subject to the ministère de l’Environnement et de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques’s legislation (ministry for the environment and the fight against climate change).

If in doubt as to the applicable subclass, refer to the Keyword Index or contact us.
