Section for owner-builders

Since the Master Pipe Mechanics Act (CQLR, c. M-4) does not apply to owner-builders, the content of this owner-builder subclass licence is significantly different from that of the contractor’s. For example, this subclass is appropriate for construction work on plumbing systems everywhere in Québec, without exception.

This subclass authorizes, without exceeding the regulatory framework, construction work relating to:

  • work included in Chapter III of the Québec Construction Code and Chapter 1 of the Safety Code
  • the installation of water meters
  • the installation of water treatment systems (softeners, filters, etc.)
  • the installation of garburators
  • the installation of gas supply pipes
  • the installation of solar thermal collectors
  • the installation and replacement of water heaters (connection to the power source requires the applicable subclass)
  • the installation of sump pumps.

Plumbing declaration

Whether or not they hold a licence, owner-builders are required to declare [Fr] any plumbing construction or renovation work.

NO LICENCE IS REQUIRED FOR THE FOLLOWING:

  • pipe thawing work
  • the cleaning of drains
  • work to flush hot and cold water pipes, as well as hot-water heaters and to pour antifreeze in the drains of various units connected to the plumbing system.

If in doubt as to the applicable subclass, refer to the Keyword Index or contact us.
