1.4 Contractor – Roads and mains

This subclass authorizes construction work on public roads and streets, sewers, pipes, railway structures and tunnels.   

Avoid underground infrastructure breaks!

Submit a locate request [Fr].

It also authorizes construction work included in subclasses 3.1, 4.1, 5.1 and 6.1 of Schedule II, when said work relates to civil engineering works governed by this subclass.

Furthermore, this subclass authorizes construction work included in subclass 1.6 but only to have said work carried out when it relates to civil engineering works governed by this subclass. 

Finally, it authorizes similar or related construction work. 

Additional explanations

This subclass authorizes, without exceeding the regulatory framework, construction work relating to: 

  • dams other than those for the generation of electrical power
  • cast or prefabricated concrete curbs for sidewalks and public parking lots   
  • parks, playgrounds, outdoor areas, pedestrian and cycling paths, equestrian centres, race tracks   
  • the assembly and anchoring of playground equipment and furnishings in a public park  
  • inlet channels, jetties, breakwaters, booms, wharves, dikes, fixed or floating docks, locks, basins, cofferdams, boat launches, beacons
  • lighting and sign systems that are part of public roads and streets 
  • landfill sites
  • retaining walls related to civil engineering structures, gabions, riprap  
  • railway and monorail structures
  • roadside parks: rest areas, lookouts, service areas 
  • underpasses for pedestrians, cyclists, etc. 
  • water, oil and gas pipelines
  • culverts that are part of a road’s infrastructure  
  • weigh stations (on public roads)
  • public camping grounds
  • outdoor tennis courts, baseball, football and soccer fields, golf courses 
  • tunnels and other underground civil engineering works.

This subclass authorizes, without exceeding the regulatory framework, construction work relating to:   

  • waterworks
  • fire hydrants
  • water towers
  • sewers
  • sewer outfalls
  • water intakes
  • reservoirs
  • pumping stations (booster stations, wet wells)
  • park or sports field watering, irrigation and drainage systems.

This subclass allows the licence holder to carry out construction work included in the following subclasses when said work relates to a civil engineering structure governed by this subclass:

  • 3.1 Concrete structures
  • 4.1 Masonry structures
  • 5.1 Metal structures and prefabricated concrete elements
  • 6.1 Wood structures
  • All work included in Schedule III.

This contractor is also authorized to carry out work governed by one or several of the aforementioned specialized subclasses when said work is part of a project relating to his subclass (1.4).

This subclass also authorizes its licence holder to have carried out immersed civil engineering work included in subclass 1.6 when said work involves civil engineering works governed by this subclass.
