9.0 Contractor – Interior finishing

This subclass authorizes construction work relating to interior and exterior painting, interior surfaces such as floor, wall and ceiling coverings and their finishes, as well as similar or related construction work.    

Additional explanations

This subclass authorizes, without exceeding the regulatory framework, construction work relating to:

  • the installation of wood floors, including sanding and finishing
  • the cutting, installation, polishing of marble, granite, granito, slate, ceramic and terrazzo 
  • coverings such as plaster, roughcast, mortar, cement, stucco, aggregate, etc. 
  • acrylic coatings
  • furring and laths
  • plasterboard (gypsum board) and lightweight cement board
  • wallpapering
  • drywall taping
  • acoustic and suspended ceilings
  • the installation of floating floors
  • the installation of flexible coverings such as vinyl, asphalt, rubber, cork, linoleum and other similar materials   
  • installation of rugs, carpets and underlays
  • soundproofing and acoustic control (caulking, installation of resilient channels, acoustic mineral wool, acoustic panels) (7.0)
  • the application of fibreglass or resin on an existing surface (balconies, steps, tubs).   

NO LICENCE IS REQUIRED FOR THE FOLLOWING:

  • household maintenance of marble floors, granite, etc., using polishers or other equipment 
  • the installation of flexible coverings that are not an integral part of the building or civil engineering work   
  • tracing lines on indoor sports courts (in a gymnasium, for instance) or exterior field (tennis courts, baseball field, etc.)   
  • the installation of decorative shelves, small mirrors and bathroom accessories (soap dishes, towel racks, mirrors), vertical and horizontal blinds, drapes, curtains, venetian blinds
  • screen repairs
  • decorating
  • artistic painting of a previously prepped surface, i.e., one whose joints have been taped, and to which pore filler and primer have been applied: fresco, trompe-l’œil, faux-marble painting, faux finish, woodgrain, etc. 
  • the cleaning of surfaces, unless refacing work is carried out prior to construction work, such as painting or masonry works.
