The RBQ’s fields of jurisdiction

In order to ensure the quality of the construction work and the safety of the persons within its areas of competence, the Régie du bâtiment du Québec (RBQ) establishes the regulations and oversees their enforcement. To this end, it enacts the chapters of the Construction Code and of the Safety Code in the following areas:

  • amusement park rides
  • buildings (of more than 2 storeys and 8 dwellings)
  • electricity
  • elevators and other elevating devices
  • gas
  • passenger ropeways
  • petroleum equipment installations
  • plumbing
  • pressure vessels
  • public pools and beaches.

Situations where the RBQ cannot take action

The Régie du bâtiment du Québec (RBQ) is involved in all the fields of activity related to construction in the province of Quebec. However, the RBQ is not empowered to settle all of the issues that you may encounter with your property; some other organizations will assist you with these.
